First placement of final year.

This upcoming Monday I'm starting my first placement of my final year, only short, four weeks with the District Nurses. I've not had a community placement like this before so I'm really looking forward to it! Feel I am going to learn a lot of core nursing skills and hopefully feel like a proper third year. It's not hit me yet how close I am to qualifying, less than 11 months... So much to learn before then. I'm really hoping my confidence builds with my leadership and management, I've not had a great deal of experience with it so far and I'll be expected to show it. I think it's one of my weaknesses that I need to concentrate on for the year.  Feeling positive about the placement though and I'm hoping to see some gooey wounds I can dress. Everyone loves that, right?!

Stress management

Anyone who's going to be starting their journey into nursing sometime in the future, or has already begun, you'll realise the importance of stress management not only on placement, in university but also at home. Managing stress = managing your time and studies well. My top tips that have helped me get through the worst of times; • Exercise - you won't want you but it's such a big reliever of stress. You'll not only feel mentally 10x better you'll also look physically fitter. Can't complain about that! Also means your a good role model to patients. No one wants a nurse to educate them about healthy eating and exercise if the nurse doesn't do so themselves. • Family & friend support -  If your a younger student who's just moved away from home for the first time to study, you'll realise how much you respect that time with your family members when you see them. • Hobbies! - For me my hobbies are the gym and my animals. • Using your time wel

My third and final year.

So, this is it. I've made it to final year and it's only took me three years already. I want this next year to fly by and be done with, but the thought of all the stress and responsibility I've got coming up is making me want to press the big exit button and disappear. But I'll be okay. What made me want to be a nurse then? I took health and social care in college, didn't pay attention much being 17 years old, then suddenly we were having to apply for university. I looked into the role of a nurse and thought 'hmm this is interesting', not knowing anything at all about healthcare and applied for the courses. Three years down the line it's been the best decision I've ever made, I feel I was born to be a nurse! I feel so comfortable around patients and always work 110% ensuring I deliver the best care to them. I'm so excited for my future in nursing with the vast range of opportunities out there, so anyone who's thinking about it, please apply
